Notes On Harmonica

I just started to play the harmonica and there is a song or two that I want to play but there are no harmonica notes for them. (By harmonica notes I mean it says blow or draw in a certain number hole) could anyone give me a website that will do that. Or if someone could give me a list of the opposing notes. I have a diatonic harmonica in Key-C. I understand thats the notes are blow and draw and that its completly different to the ABCDEFG scale but I want to be able to play th ABCDEFG scale on the harmonica. Do you know what I found? Look up what the notes for your harmonica are. Notes don’t come in blow/draw form, they come in ABCDEFG form. What brand/model harmonica do you have, and what key is your harmonica in (there is a little letter stamped on it somewhere detailing the key)? If you supply this information, then we can quickly tell you what the notes of your harmonica are. —————- *edit* Here are the notes to your harmonica:

Harmonica Play

I already know the notes and stuff because I play the piano and oboe. Basically… Learning harmonica is very simple, especially with a music background. Since you play piano, I assume that you can sort of play by ear etc. That helped me out a lot when I began (I also play violin). You don’t really use notes, most harmonica music comes in tab, similar to guitar. They will show numbers (1-10 for the diatonic harmonica, which is the one most used) and arrows or negative signs to show if you blow or draw (breathe in). Make sure that you get a decent harmonica when you start, a crappy harmonica won’t help you develop any skills. Most beginners start of with one in the key of C, so make sure you view which key you buy it in. Essentially, when you get better, you can buy them in different keys, but try a C for now. A good (economical) harp can cost between 20-40 bucks. Your best bet would be on a Hohner Special 20, which costs about $30 or a Lee Oskar Major which is also about the same price. A lot of pros use Special 20s, and they’re just overall good harps and good to learn on. Also, make sure you start off on a diatonic harmonica.

Harmonica Key Of C

I have had a c harmonica for a year, and I think im ready to get another key now. . Which one should I get? I play mostly rock and blues, and what artists I try to mimic depends, but mostly blues and rock artists. I think I found an answer. Cap’n Jack’s list might be a bit confusing using “E A” as a reference point. In that example, the first pitch is crossharp played on a straightharp of the second pitch. I’d say not to just memorize that list (which is a little incomplete) but to memorize this: 1) Crossharp is the V of the key the harp is straight in. That means a C harp plays in G crossharp. 2) If you know the crossharp key you want but need to know what straightharp key to play that on, use the IV of your crossharp key. That means that if you know you want to play in G crossharp, the IV is C. Doing it this way gets you covered for all of the possible key permutations such as “what harp do I use for G# crossharp?” [which is the same note as Ab but spelled differently; you'd use a C# or Db straightharp] What to buy next. Doesn’t matter really – buy what you want. If you want to be able to play everything then one day you’re going to need 12 of them. Helpful rules of thumb though: * Folk and hymn music likes C and G. We mostly play those in straightharp. G harp is low pitched (as is A) and any people prefer that lower sound. Many models only come in C and G for this reason. * String players (such as guitars and orchestras) like A, E, and D a lot along with C and G from folk styles. We mostly play their music in crossharp. D harp plays in D straight and A crossharp – simmering useful. E harp plays in E straight and B crossharp – not as useful. G harp (see above about folk music) plays in D crossharp. D is really close to C and so responds about the same as your C harp – the tone range is very similar. It plays in A crossharp. * Horn players like flat keys; C, F and Bb especially. We mostly play jazz on a chromatic and so key doesn’t matter as much. But, if you’ll be playing with horn players a lot, look at an F harp – it plays F straight and C crossharp. Thing is, an F harp is awful high pitch – any people’s ears don’t like that sound at all. An Eb harp (Bb crossharp) is also simmering high and not so “sweet” sounding. If you walk around the circle of fifths you get C, G, D, A, E. . And going the other way (fourths) C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab. . Those keys along the top of both sides happen most commonly because they have fewer sharps and flats. The more sharps or flats the music has, the harder it is to play for most players and also the harder to keep in tune on a wind blown or unfretted chromatic instrument. Nobody can really say what you should get next though because it depends an awful lot on the music you play and what key it’s in. If you’re playing alone it doesn’t matter in the slightest; it only matters when you’re playing with others or playing along to recordings. My preferred order is to alternate back and forth around the key circle: C, G (1 sharp), F (1 flat), D (2 sharps), Bb (2 flats), A (3 sharps), Eb (3 flats). . Etc. . Until I have all 12 but I tend to collect all 12 of a model when it’s made if I like that model and I already have mostly all key that might come up in any model or another.

Are there any good rock songs that features the harmonica. From what I can tell… A Song For Jeffrey by Jethro Tull, also features their trademark flute. Rough Housin’ by . 38 Special Cryin’ by Aerosmith Crazy by Aerosmith When The Levee Breaks by Led Zeppelin Metallica’s cover of Tuesday’s Gone is a good one, as well as early Beatles’ songs like Love Me Do The other suggestions are great so far, you may also want to look into blues and folk, genres that often crossover with rock.

G Harmonica

I have a diatonic harmonica in the key of G. I’ve been practicing with a teach yourself book that came with a CD. Now that I’ve actually listened to the CD and played along, I realized that the book is for diatonic harmonicas in the key of C. Is this a big problem? When I blow through hole 4 in a diatonic G harmonica, am I still playing the note C? I’m confused. I think I found an answer. You need to brush up on your diatonic scales. For mouth harp, it is an advanced skill to transpose to a different key. However G and C have many notes in common and with practice you can play across scales. I would suggest getting a harmonica in the key your learning materials are using, but the basic structure and muscle memory work are the same. Best of luck. Music makes the world go round.

This harp is a Special 20 in G. I have several and they are good to play, but I think the wood comb harmonicas sound better for this type of stuff. I run it . . .

Hello My harmonica playing never sounds like blues songs. . (like the ones in eric clapton, little walter, and sounds like someone in subway doing cheesy folk songs? Why is that? What is the magic. I was happy to learn… Blues harp requires bending to achieve the notes that don’t naturally occur on the instrument. It also requires playing in a different key than the actual key of the harp. The most common is crossed harp/2nd position. Bob W. Is on the right track, but his key conversions are wrong. Here’s a simple diagram of cross/2nd position, as well as slant/3rd position keys in relation to song/harp key- You have it easy learning blues harp in the era of internet, YouTube, etc. Rather than typing several hundred words explaining how to bend, I would suggest you check out “kudzu runner” on YouTube. Adam (aka kudzurunner) Gussow does a great job of demonstrating various harp techniques for all skill levels. If you are still having difficulty, feel free to email me and I’ll help you get started.

I’m looking for the sheetmusic to “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness” song only. Not the whole album. I’ve tried amazon. Com, sheetmusicplus. Com, and eBay. Com but I can’t find it anywhere. I have found the music for the entire album but I don’t want to spend $30 or $40. Any suggestions on finding this one song only. Well, I have your answer right here. I wish I could help you. . I’ve only ever seen the entire MCIS album sheetmusic on amazon. there’s also the ‘smashing pumpkins anthology’ that’s only about $15. Mellon collie isn’t in it, but it’s got a lot of other great songs, and it’s an interesting challenge.

I was asked by my mother to play this at my cousins birthday party. I feel like a total idiot for asking this but I need the money she promised to give me so I can repay a friend who I owe this amount to. ($50) I am in such a mess. If you want to help please put the notes as shown in this Because I can’t read regular sheet music: 6 6 6 6 5 4 This lit-tle light of mine, 6 6 6 6 5 4 I’m gon-na let it shine, 7 7 7 7 -6 -5 This lit-tle light of mine, 7 7 7 -7 -6 6 I’m gon-na let it shine, 6 -6 6 6 -5 5 Let it shine, let it shine, -4 -4 4 let it shine. 6 6 6 6 -6 6 5 4 Hide it un-der a bush-el, No. 6 6 6 6 5 4 I’m gon-na let it shine, 7 7 7 7 -8 7 -6 -5 Hide it un-der a bush-el, No. 7 7 7 -7 -6 6 I’m gon-na let it shine, 6 -6 6 6 -5 5 -4 -4 4 Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine. *Don’t ask how I got into this mess, it’s a really long story. I’m just asking for the format. After speaking to others on the web, I found the answer. Michael: That song you posted is not “Fanfare For The Common Man” by Aaron Copeland This is: or this too with a Chromatic The tabs for “This Little Light of Mine” are here: I have to say that I have no idea what a Victory harmonica is. I play plain old 10 hole diatonics. Hohner Special 20′s, and Lee Oskar major diatonics mostly. If you have to learn the song it may help to play along with a recording to get the correct rhythm. You may have to play it 50 or 60 times to get comfortable with it. Also if the tab doesn’t sound quite right to you feel free to change it a little. I mostly do.

What’s the tab for that blues shuffle on the harmonica (In Key of C) that you always hear in the movies when someone’s in a jail cell playing the blues on harmonica??? Please help, thanx. Today I found out that… I don’t think it’s technically a shuffle. Not usually anyway. . I usually hear them play chords with a lot of “Hand Vibrato”. Or wail on the 4 draw with hand vibrato. Just a little noodling. If you post a clip as an example, we could help you pretty fast.

Bending Notes On A Harmonica

Hello, I play the harmonica and instead of lip pursing or tongue blocking, I use the u-block method (which is forming a you shape with my tongue), and i’m wondering if it is possible to bend with this technique? And if so how? Or, do I need to learn lip pursing or tongue blocking in order to accomplish bending? Thank you. Well, I have your answer. It’s possible, but infinitely more difficult. When you bend (a draw note), you draw your tongue down and towards the back of your throat-difficult to do that and maintain a U-block shape at the same time. Besides, you need to master all the methods of playing if you really want to play harp. I mainly use single hole, lip pursing, but there plenty of occasions where tongue blocking is essential (less so with U-blocking). Not knowing all three techniques is like a guitarist only strumming, but not knowing how to pick, or flat-picking, but not finger-picking.

Itunes charge a lot of money for their songs. What is another site that I can download music from with much lower prices or for free. Essentially — Any music that’s under copyright, it’s both illegal and a violation of the T of A and Community Guidelines to request, and, or to assist in anything that involves piracy. Whenever you download music free that’s under copyright, you’re not only depriving artists who worked hard to record the music, but also the songwriters/composers, of what little they get from their efforts spent to write it. Songwriters, and those who also write the music get royalties, which are just pennies, compared to the artists who recorded it. The same for the studio musicians who participate, and maybe entitled to royalties from the recording. Some other sites that might have what you’re looking for legally. Engraved Harmonica

I want to buy a good harmonica for my friend. I want her name and a message put on it. Where can I get this done. Essentially — Any trophy shop can engrave the plates on a harmonica. Your issue is going to be that any of the good harmonicas are already fully engraved by the manufacturer – there’s no space to write on it. I’ve seen any people attach a brass or chrome plate to the cover plate after engraving it. That’ll change the playing feel though. Instead of engraving the instrument (which could change the playability), how about finding a good woodworker to make her a really nice wooden case with her name and the message on the case or an an attached plate? Then buy a good harmonica (see if you can determine what she likes to play and buy that model) to put in it. Another cool thing for a harmonica gift – if you have tons of money to toss on it – buy a good harp like a Marine Band (1896) and take it to a custom jeweler. Ask the jeweler to have the cover plates gold plated and buffed. [it's a good idea to have a harmonica player take the plates off for you and put them back when done]

Diatonic or Chromatic also in what key should I get it in C. Do you know what I found? Chromatic includes all scale tones(all keys) and is used more by harmonica officianados. Diatonic is limited and you choose the key. Rock/Pop/Blues musicians commonly have multiple diatonic harps for the specific situation. That is usually what you hear played. Provided you want to play along with a Beatles recording, first you would have to know what key it is recorded in. It is not the same for every song. Then you would want to know if they are playing “straight harp” (major scale) or “cross” harp (minor scale) Each diatonic harmonica does one of each. For instance if the Beatles recording was in “C” you would play a “C” harp. The C also plays “G” minor scale. This is due to the way the scales overlap. If the song is in “c” minor, you would use a “F” harp centering around the C note to match the recording. Generally speaking major for Folk, Country, and some Pop. Minor for Blues and Rock. If you are playing with someone and not the recording you would want to know what key they play it in, usually determined by the singers range. If you are just playing the harmonica it doesn’t matter which you pick, you can play in any key. C or G is a good place to start for majors, good for (gives you G and D crossharp) D and E for blues (crossharp in A and E) covers lots of guitar based blues.

Is The Harmonica Hard To Learn

I’m wanting to learn how to play harmonica, and I have two questions. What key do most begginers start with? And what key are most songs played in, is it the same? I’m wanting to learn really simple, like Sweet Perfection by NeverShoutNever. Thanks. Well, I have your answer. Most beginners start with a harp in C. Partly because most tutorials are in C and partly because most very low priced harmonicas only come in C. It really doesn’t matter much though unless you’re playing along with a tutorial or with a teacher. “Most songs” are in any of the 12 possible key signatures. There’s probably some research somewhere to tell us what is the highest percentage but reality is that it doesn’t matter much unless you’re playing along with a recording – you can play it in any key you’d like and it’s just in a different key but still the same song. We do know that folk songs tend to be in C – because that’s an easy key to record them in western notation in and because many folk instruments play in C and because it’s the easiest key to transpose from at sight. We know that guitar players often play in G D E and A and fiddle players (therefor bluegrass) like E and A a lot. Horn players often play in F and Bb and so a lot of jazz music is in the simpler flat keys. It seems to me that blues likes E and A a lot too. Though D isn’t all that unheard of either. Now, a kink in your decision process. We tend to play tunes/melodies like folksongs in straightharp (first position) so whatever the harp is marked is the key it’s in. BUT we play blues, country, rock, etc. . (three chord trick) in crossharp (second position) so whatever key your harp says we play a ideal fifth above that. ie: a C harp is used for playing in G crossharp and a D harp is used for playing in A crossharp. So, if you want to play crossharp in E then you need a harp in A. If you want to play crossharp in C then you need a harp in F. There are other positions too – we can play a relative natural minor as an example such that a C harp gives us A minor. (the major sixth of the straight harp is the relative minor) and then there are modes. . TMI at this point. Bottom line (though many people won’t agree for a variety of reasons) is to get a decent harp (Marine Band, Special 20, Blues Harp, Lee Oskar) in C to start and grow your set from there according to what you need for what you want to play. C plays G crossharp and guitar players like that key a lot – they can play along for you. You need 12 harmonicas (or a chromatic) to play in all key but some keys are simmering scarce indeed. straight = cross (commonness of the crossharp key in performance) G=D (very common) Ab = Eb (not uncommon) A=E (very common) Bb=F (not uncommon) B=F#/Gb (rare) C=G (very common) Db/C# = G#/Ab (fairly rare) D=A (very common) Eb=Bb (not uncommon) E=B (uncommon) F=C (very common) F#/Gb = C#/Db (rare) Notice that the C harp is in the middle of the range too – it’s neither low and hard to blow or high and hard on the ears. But D is right there too and it has similar tone properties. Some people say it’s easier to bend.

Hohner Pocket Pal

Ive learned a little with my c harp. Its a hohner pocket pal it was good for a beginner but I believe iv passed that stage now and I think I need a new harmonica. I like sad bluesy stuff. What key would be best for sad, bluesy music ? And btw ill probably buy another hohner. Which would you suggest ? Special 20 and blues harp seems good but dunno . After speaking to others on the web, I found the answer. After “C” the next you should get is an “A” harmonica. Maybe a “Hohner Marine Band 1896″. . . A large portion of good blues songs are played in the key of “E”. So an “A” harp is perfect. It is also a Lot lower than the “C”. After the “A, C”, get “D, G,”. Blues guitar players like playing in the keys of “G,E,A,D”. Thus “C,A,D,G” harmonicas. ————————– BTW. . You most definitely Can make a “sad” sound with a “C” harp. My Favorite harp keys are “F, D”. The “F” is Incredibly high. But it Does sound bluesy. * What I believe is happening is that you are playing a lot of melodies (little lamb, twinkle star, saints go marching. . Etc. ). If this is the case, what you need to do is research what “2nd Position” is. Moving into different positions will allow for different tone. It is also necessary if you cannot overbend. You may want to start working on your bending abilities and “Tone”. If you have good tone, Most Anything will sound good. *** Bluesiness does Not come from a key change. ————————-• The “A” will serve you well.

How To Read Harmonica Tab

I’m a beginner and guitar tabs I understand, but how do I read harmonica tabs ?  5    6   -6    5   6 When the night has come This is an example Any help will be appreciated . From what I can tell… The diatonic* harmonica has 10 holes. These are mainly numbered from 1 to10. The end with number 1 should be held in your left hand. The numbers in harmonica tab specify which hole you are supposed to play. A number by itself or with a plus sign after it means to blow on that hole. If the number has a minus sign, you draw (suck air through the harmonica) on that note. However, there are variations on this. For example, the tab at this site uses plus signs for blow and a number by itself for a draw: It’s mostly easy to figure out variations like this. There really isn’t a standardized system of harmonica tab, so you may view other kinds of notation, but the instructions above should work for a lot of the free tab online. *Diatonic means that the harmonica is in a single key. This is different from a chromatic harmonica, which has different tablature.

How To Play A Song On Harmonica

One of my friends requested this song for me to play on the harmonica since i’ve simmering much played everything except hip hop and r&b which isn’t really my style but she wanted me to play the song Carry Out by Timbaland, so I listened to the song a few times, I heard it at some of the dances and stuff and the beat’s simmering much ment for the dance floor not really harmonica, but I tried shifting the pitches and everything but doesn’t seem suitable for the harmonica, does anyone have any idea if this song could even be played on a harmonica, if so how would the notes go? Thx. And so today I found out that… The song is in E-flat minor. Kind of a weird key, but all is not lost – read on. You don’t state what kind of harmonica you’ve – knowing that could help. If you’ve a diatonic harmonica (the kind that’s about four inches long and has ten holes) then the best fit would be a harmonica in the key of Db (D-flat), and you could play it mostly on the inhaled notes in Holes 4, 5, and6. If you’ve a C harmonica, you could pitch-shift the tune down one semitone and still play it in Holes 4, 5, and 6 mostly on the draw notes. If you’ve a chromatic harmonica in C, just press the slide button in and play it on mostly draw notes in Holes 1, 2 and 3 or in Holes 5, 6, and 7. Once you know which holes to play on which harp, chances are you can figure out the tune itself with a little listening and trial-and-error.
