I’ve had a Harmonica for ages, and recently I’ve been wanting to play it so I’ve been doing research on Harmonicas/Mouth Organs, but I can’t find anything even remotely similar to what I have. Every source I can find say Harmonicas/Mouth Organs (are they the same thing or not?) have 10 holes (or at the most,14. Mine has 48 holes, in 2 rows. The inside grid, that separates the holes is made of plastic, and there is only a very small space between each hole (about 1mm) It has two pieces of flat metal, which are a gold-ish colour (possibly brass?) on on either side, directly outside the holes and then any casing which is also Metal. Can anyone tell me what this instrument is exactly, and how I would go about learning how to play it? Also, the outside metal casing has been died red and has Gold writing saying Tower on it. (and also, made in China. ) If that helps. Lol. I guess this is a rather random question to ask on Valentines day. With normal 10-Hole Harmonicas, the songs (that I’ve seen) have been written giving the hole number and an arrow indicating whether to breath in or out (ie. 5 -> 7 5-> etc) How do I translate that into something I can play? Is it possible? Are there any songs made for my type of harmonica, or do you just make them up as you go along? Is it advisable to start learning with this type of harmonica. I was so glad to find this — Some harmonicas are fancier than others. The simplest kind is the kind you see books on and lessons for, because that’s what most people learn on, and they’re what blues and rock musicians use. These harmonicas have one set of reeds, actually two per hole, one for blowing out and one for sucking in. They are diatonic, meaning that they only play the 8 notes of the scale, no sharps or flats. Yours is a nicer one. It has two rows of holes so you are blowing or sucking two reeds at a time, perhaps an octave apart. Some of these harmonicas have a sort of button on the side that shift all the notes up half a tone, they are chromatic harmonicas that can play all 12 tones of the scale. I think if you just follow the instructions for a regular harmonica, it will work the same. But it’s capable of more.
