G Harmonica

I have a diatonic harmonica in the key of G. I’ve been practicing with a teach yourself book that came with a CD. Now that I’ve actually listened to the CD and played along, I realized that the book is for diatonic harmonicas in the key of C. Is this a big problem? When I blow through hole 4 in a diatonic G harmonica, am I still playing the note C? I’m confused. I think I found an answer. You need to brush up on your diatonic scales. For mouth harp, it is an advanced skill to transpose to a different key. However G and C have many notes in common and with practice you can play across scales. I would suggest getting a harmonica in the key your learning materials are using, but the basic structure and muscle memory work are the same. Best of luck. Music makes the world go round.

This harp is a Special 20 in G. I have several and they are good to play, but I think the wood comb harmonicas sound better for this type of stuff. I run it . . .
