I already know the notes and stuff because I play the piano and oboe. Basically… Learning harmonica is very simple, especially with a music background. Since you play piano, I assume that you can sort of play by ear etc. That helped me out a lot when I began (I also play violin). You don’t really use notes, most harmonica music comes in tab, similar to guitar. They will show numbers (1-10 for the diatonic harmonica, which is the one most used) and arrows or negative signs to show if you blow or draw (breathe in). Make sure that you get a decent harmonica when you start, a crappy harmonica won’t help you develop any skills. Most beginners start of with one in the key of C, so make sure you view which key you buy it in. Essentially, when you get better, you can buy them in different keys, but try a C for now. A good (economical) harp can cost between 20-40 bucks. Your best bet would be on a Hohner Special 20, which costs about $30 or a Lee Oskar Major which is also about the same price. A lot of pros use Special 20s, and they’re just overall good harps and good to learn on. Also, make sure you start off on a diatonic harmonica.
