I play cello and I have a terrible time understanding what certain things mean like. . What are the different types of rests and how many beats of rest do they get? How do you figure out what key a song is in? And how many beats certain notes get? Plz can someone help me with these questions? I’m going to be in my high schol orchestra this yr and I don’t want to sound stupid. From what I can tell… A half step is the space between a white key and a black key (sonds like jaws) or the sapce from olne finger to the next (except for first finger. The space between the open string and first finger is a whole step, which is the reason you have half position) You figure out what key a song is in by looking at the last sharp and going up one half step Key of C – no sharps of flats Key of G – One sharp F# go up one half step F3# – G Key of D – Two sharps F# / C# – go up one half step from C# – D Key of A – Three Sharps F# / C? G# Go up one half step from G# – A The circle of fourths is a little different. Count up by fours but always count that last note you stopped at as one (1) Key of C – No sharps of flats Key of F – B flat (Bb) count up four from F to Bb F – G – A – Bb Key of Bb – Two flats / Bb / Eb nest key is E flat (Eb) Key of Eb – Three flats Bb / Eb / Ab Next key is Ab How many beats a certain note gets is a little bit more complicated. It depends on the key signature. You are going to want to get together with your teacher or a good theory site for that one.
This is the first day of the introduction to lesson two. We use a ladder and we compare it to real life.
